8 in 10 serious musicians will experience an injury that causes a career setback
Only 2 will fully recover
5 will either experience continued pain or recurrent flare-ups
1 will leave music entirely due to injury
And the current culture of professional music doesn’t seem to care
However, there’s a growing number of musicians who recognize how demanding music is on their body and realizing that their body is at least as important (if not more important) to their music as their instrument.
More and more musicians are taking steps to stay healthy and avoid injury. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that your music education taught you how to do that. It’s hard to know where to start, especially since the wrong exercises can create more problems than they solve.
I’m a doctor of physical therapy specializing in musicians and I’ve seen first hand how pain and tension fade and confidence returns to playing when the right exercises are chosen for the right body areas at the right level of challenge.
After working with many professional musicians, I’ve developed a safe, musicians-specific exercise program that addresses all of the muscle groups most important to musicians.
Best of all, it doesn’t require hours in the gym. I know how busy musicians are and I recognize that your focus needs to be on your music, not your body. So I’ve made the program as simple and short as possible, while still making sure it is effective.
A small investment of your time is all you need to prevent tension and stiffness from gradually developing into a career threatening injury.
To help you get started, I’ve put together the Musician’s Maintenance Starter Kit, a free 2-week email series with the goal of doing 3 things.
- Teach you the muscles that matter for musicians
- Teach you a safe, simple exercise for each muscle group
- Transform how your body feels while playing in just 5 minutes per day.
You can either learn more here or just add your email below and you’ll be able to get started now. Your body will thank you.
