Welcome back to Musician’s Maintenance, for musicians who just can’t afford to have pain and injury limit their playing.
This issue is brought to you by me! You take lessons for your instrument, but have you thought of taking lessons for your body? Learn how understanding your body benefits your music and how I may be able to help.
I’m Cody, and I appreciate spending the next few minutes in your inbox. Below you’ll find resources and exercises to help you maintain your body at least as well as you maintain your instrument. Let’s get to it!
5 Minute Mobility
A lack of time is one of the main reasons musicians report for not taking care of their body. One of the best ways to combat a lack of time is to find a group of movements that are both efficient and effective.
Austin Pancer of the Functional Musician put together this great 5 minute mobility routine that addresses several of the most important areas for musicians in a short amount of time. Watch the videos and give the routine below a try.
- Hip Hinge to Squat: 10 times.
- Cat Cow to Thread the Needle: 5 per side.
- Shoulder Sequence (arm swings across; rotations; arms forward-back; hand to belly and back): 1-2 minutes total (15-30 sec per exercise).
- If you are feeling good and have more than 5 minutes, go through the routine another 1 or 2 times.
